Frequently Asked Questions

1. How often should I have my piano tuned?

For most pianos, once or twice a year is ideal to keep up with seasonal humidity changes. Even if the piano isn’t played often, regular tuning helps preserve its structure and sound quality.

2. My piano hasn’t been tuned in years. Is it too late?

It is probably not too late but please see our Instrument Condition Disclaimer below. We regularly service pianos that haven’t been tuned in 5, 10, or even 20+ years. That said, they often require a pitch raise before a fine tuning can hold properly. We’ll assess this at your appointment and explain any needed steps.

3. How long does a tuning appointment take?

A routine tuning typically takes about 60-90 minutes and includes small extra tasks such as removing a pencil or re-seating a stray spring. If the piano needs repairs or extra adjustments that add to the cost of service, we’ll discuss that with you before continuing.

4. Do you also repair or adjust pianos?

Yes. In addition to tuning, we handle sticky keys, broken strings, pedal issues, action regulation, and more. Let us know in advance if your piano has a specific problem, and we’ll plan accordingly.

5. What types of pianos do you work on?

We tune and service acoustic upright and grand pianos, including spinets, consoles, and studio models. We do not service digital keyboards or electronic instruments.  We do service the traditional components of player pianos but do not service components related to the player system.

6. What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, credit/debit cards, Venmo, and Zelle. Payment is due at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made in advance.  When self-scheduling online, payment is required to complete booking.

7. Do you offer discounts for churches, schools, or homes with more than one piano?

Yes. We offer special rates for multi-piano institutions and households. Please contact us for details.

8. How should I prepare for my tuning appointment?

Please remove any objects from the top of the piano (frames, lamps, books, etc.) and ensure we have a quiet, accessible space to work. Background noise is okay, but a relatively calm environment helps us hear pitch accurately.

9. Can you tune in homes with children or pets?

Absolutely. We’re used to working in family homes and don’t expect total silence. We may just ask for a few quiet moments here and there while we listen closely during tuning.

10. Do you offer emergency or short-notice appointments?

We do our best to accommodate urgent requests when possible. If you have an upcoming event or performance, let us know — rush fees may apply depending on timing and availability.

Pitch Adjustment Policy

If your piano is significantly flat or sharp, a pitch correction (also called a pitch raise) may be necessary before a fine tuning can be performed. We’ll assess your piano on arrival and discuss the best plan. This is especially common for pianos that haven’t been tuned in several years.

Tuning Follow-Up Policy

Piano tuning is inherently delicate. String tension reacts to changes in humidity, temperature, and even recent movement of the piano. While we take every care to leave your instrument sounding its best, even a well-executed tuning may drift due to factors outside our control.

If something feels off in the days after your appointment, please reach out within 7–10 days. We’re happy to talk through what you’re hearing and advise you on the next steps. While we don’t offer complimentary re-tunings, we’re always available to guide you and support the long-term care of your instrument.

Instrument Condition Disclaimer

We work carefully on every piano, but older or neglected instruments may have hidden issues (loose tuning pins, cracked bridges, brittle strings, etc.) that become apparent during service. We are not responsible for preexisting weaknesses that surface as a natural result of tuning or repair work.
